MADERA - As reported by Big Valley News last week, the Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees has fired Superintendent Ed Gonzales without cause. At their closed session meeting last night the board decided to terminate their contract with the superintendent with a unanimous vote.

It was standing room only for supports of the embattled superintendent with many forced to watched the evenings proceedings from a make-shift "Drive-in" theater in the parking lot. Supporters wore hand-written signs on their chests calling Gonzales "Super Ed".

World Ag Expo Kicks Off 50th Celebration Print E-mail

TULARE - World Ag Expo kicked off its 50th anniversary show Tuesday in Tulare, California.  The red carpet was rolled out on Tuesday for Opening Ceremonies at 10:00 a.m. in the World Ag Expo Arena. The national anthem was performed by Brenna Yaeger, Season 8 contestant on The Voice. Yaeger was accompanied by Tulare Community Band.

The Bud Light After-Hours Party will be held on Wednesday in the World Ag Expo Arena, starting at 4:00 p.m. All attendees are encouraged to come celebrate World Ag Expo’s golden anniversary with a concert by Parmalee and a fireworks show!  The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is free with paid World Ag Expo admission.

Two People Identified in Case of Smuggling Contraband into the Fresno County Jail Print E-mail

FRESNO - The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing a case where Sheriff’s detectives identified two men who tried to smuggle contraband into the Fresno County Jail. One of the men is currently in custody for an unrelated case and the other man is not in custody. The D.A. will determine if the suspects will face charges of conspiracy to bring contraband into a jail.

This smuggling case is also the one which prompted the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to investigate Fresno Attorney, Anthony (Tony) Capozzi. Detectives have completed their investigation into Capozzi and the evidence shows there are no grounds for detectives to request charges be filed against Capozzi.

Man Shoots Innocent Bystander in Courthouse Park; Deputies Arrest Gunman Print E-mail

FRESNO - Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 24 year old John Major and booked him into the Fresno County Jail. Major faces three felony counts of attempted homicide.

Around 1:30 pm on Monday, dispatchers took phone calls stating multiple shots had been fired in Courthouse Park, next to Sheriff’s Headquarters located at 2200 Fresno Street. At the same time dispatchers were handling calls, deputies both inside and outside Sheriff’s Headquarters heard the shots and responded to the area.

Train verses Pedestrian Fatal Accident at California and Parallel Avenues Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Friday, February 10, 2017, at 12:23 PM, officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to California and Parallel avenues regarding a male adult laying on the railroad tracks at that location. When officers arrived on scene, they found a deceased male adult laying on the tracks at that location. There was no train in the area at that time. A citizen was driving by on California Avenue and saw the male laying on the tracks and he called the police department.

As officers conducted their investigation they located a small flashlight, turned on, laying in the dirt between the rails some distance from the decedents body. Also, officers located several areas in the dirt, also between the rails, that were recently turned over located several yards east of the flashlight.
