Chowchilla – It has been 136 days since the passing of Little League District 10 Administrator Bob Berry. In that time the powers that be at Western Regional Little League have devised a plan to break up the district Mr. Berry worked so hard to keep together.

In a small meeting room in Chowchilla, presidents from all of the community Little Leagues from Sanger to Turlock met to learn the fate of their district. What they learned from acting District Administrator John Gray was that one of the largest districts in the state would be split into two separate districts this season.

Gray, who was very close to the late district administrator, told the group, “I hate this. I don’t like this. But ultimately this will be something good for both districts.”

In the next month a new executive board will be appointed to a three year term for the new District 73 while the executive board for District 10 will stand for election this May. Gray said he would not run for the district administrator position he has held since the death of Mr. Berry but would be available for an assistant administrator position should he be elected by the district.

Prior to the split of district 10 the center of the district was the Town & County Park’s baseball complex in Madera. With the split the center of the district is now the baseball complex at River Park in Fresno.

Gray would not say where the district’s Tournament of Champions or All Star Tournament championship games would be played. In the past they have been hosted in Madera. River Park, though dominating with the most district championships since 2004, has never hosted a championship game and has not hosted a post season sectional tournament since 2006.

Opening day at River Park is set for March 3^rd and in Madera for March 24^th.
